One last meeting with our respected teacher Mr. S.M. Siddique Sindhu - and a sad farewell.

Dear fellow Publicans,

Assalam-o-alaikum.

On Sunday, 28th February 2010, Publican and Trustee of PAT Mr. Khalid Zaki and the under-signed, were privileged to call on Mr. S.M. Siddique Sindhu at his residence in North Nazimabad, Karachi in order to convey to him on behalf of all Publicans and on behalf of PAT, our profound respect for his patient and invaluable guidance to us during our School days and for his own distinctive dignity and stature as a widely and highly respected teacher of our beloved School. Earlier, Publican Ashraf Kapadia visited our respected teacher while he was in hospital after having informed us of his ailment. Also, Publican Waseem Ghani visited the hospital and circulated photographs of our dear teacher.

Though he had just returned from hospital the previous day, Siddique Sindhu sahib was able to sit up in bed and, despite a couple of tubes that helped ease his discomfort, listened to what we had to say to him with a very pleasant smile and his eyes brimming with the tears of memories. He looked surprisingly healthier than what we had apprehended his condition to have been.

His sons Imran Siddique and Adnan Siddique shared with us a priceless collection of photographs from his albums of Public School days, images of his fellow teachers and students. For so many of us, S.M. Siddique Sindhu sahib graciously helped to unravel the mysteries of mathematics and the puzzles of arithmetic.

On a personal note that is also relevant to other Publicans : the under-signed had the privilege of being the first House Captain of Iqbal House in Public School simultaneous to Mr. S.M. Siddique Sindhu being the House Master. His friendly and always supportive attitude motivated all members of Iqbal House to achieve several honours. One of the photographs that his sons shared with us was a group picture of the first-ever members of Iqbal House taken in 1960. The same picture is reproduced on the Old Publicans website, courtesy Publican Ashraf Kapadia.

His sons, and his grandchildren, his daughter and family came across as a loving, caring set of human beings who were nurtured so well by their beloved father.

Less than 24 hours later, we were shocked to learn of his departure for the eternal abode.

Several Publicans, including Khawaja Fariduddin, Khalid Zaki, Waseem Ghani, Ashraf Kapadia, Shamim Riaz, Jaleel Ahmed Zuberi, Dr. Misbah the under-signed and others were able to offer prayers for him at the Namaz-e-Janaza. Non-inclusion of names of other Publicans who may also have been present at that time is inadvertent and is regretted.

We will always cherish his invaluable services to education both in Public School and in Dubai where he served with honour as Principal of the Pakistan School from 1973 to 1978.

May Allah rest the departed soul in eternal peace and give strength to his family and to all who respected him, to bear this loss with fortitude. Ameen.
