Eternally Shaheen* Shall Fly
By Shahid Nawaz Khan
I hear his flying friends say
"How beauty dies in its prime
How great men live their lives
How tall he stood upon the ground
How deep below he lies"
No, I tell them
He did not die but lives on
Far beyond the yonder sky
Surely you will not see him land
Eternally Shaheen shall fly
Didn't he promise ' I Shall Rise'**
He did rise but did not die
Each time you look up on the sky
You shall see him smiling bright
His charming, glittering, gleaming face
Emitting brilliant, radiant light
Eternally he will help and guide you
Through winds and storms to safer height
So don't ever say he is dead
He flies through time and space
The true namesake of PAF
Shaheen now flies on every base
He guards the skies of Pakistan
With a martyrs' smile upon his face
My dear brother Shaheen Nawaz Khan (1957-1981) met martyrdom on December 31, 1981, while flying on a training mission to defend the motherland. He was an Old Publican (1963-73)
** 'I shall Rise' is the motto of Pakistan Air Force (PAF)
