As a young sub-lieutenant I was appointed as Commanding Officer of a Gun-boat during the war with our neighbours in 1971, in then East Pakistan. Towards the end of war I was seriously wounded in action. In acknowledgement of my performance I was awarded Sitara-e-Jurrat for gallantry in action . It took me almost 2 years to completely recover from my injuries and then continued in service to finally achieve the highest rank of an Admiral and assume charge of Navy as the Chief of Naval Staff in October 2002. I retired after 3 years as Chief of Naval Staff in 2005 and was appointed as Ambassador of Pakistan to Saudi Arabia where I am presently serving.
Misc. Information
Married Spouse name Nasreen Shahid.Have three sons. Ahmar, Azfar and Affar.
Al Hamdu Lillah my life has been a success story. After Allah I owe my success to my parents, my friends and well wishers but over and above all to my school CPSK, its principal Mr. M.E. Hyder and fantastic faculty members. They were responsible to mold my character and train me to face the world as a responsible citizen and leader of men. My days at CPSK and the memories of days spent there are unforgettable.
I salute all the old publicans who are working so hard to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the school. Exchanging e-mails with old friends bring back nostalgic memories which cannot be expressed in words. I wish them all the best and fair winds and following seas.
