Details of the Event

The Publican Reunion 2017 was held on Saturday, January 7, 2017 at the Beach Luxury Hotel. The Jasmine Hall at the hotel was jam-packed with over 300 Old Publicans filling the hall to capacity. Ashraf Kapadia (Class of 1969) was the compere for the event, which started with recitation from the Holy Quran. This was followed by the National Anthem, and all present joined in by singing the national anthem.

Shahid Karimullah (Class of 1963), Chairman, Publican Alumni Trust gave his Welcome Address. He introduced the Trustees of the Publican Alumni Trust by inviting them to join him on the stage. In his address, Shahid Karimullah welcomed everyone to the Publican Alumni 2017 and to the 6th Annual General Meeting of the Publican Alumni Trust.

He especially thanked Sir Asghar Bin Shahid Jafri and Mrs. Shama Iqbal, two of our esteemed teachers who made special efforts to be at the Publican Reunion 2017. He said that whatever we are today is all because of the training and guidance imparted by our teachers at the Cantt Public School.

He briefed the gathering about the success of The Publican School which was inaugurated in August 2015 in an underprivileged area of Korangi. He requested all Old Publicans to continue to donate generously to the Publican Alumni Trust so that it can continue to expand The Publican School by the addition of a Secondary Section.

Lastly, he thanked Javed Jabbar (Class of 1961), Founder Chairman, Publican Alumni Trust for his continued active support and valuable guidance.

Next, Ashraf Kapadia (Class of 1969), Secretary, Publican Alumni Trust, presented the Minutes of the 5th Annual General Meeting, Audited Annual Account for the Year-Ended June 30, 2016, and the appointment of the Auditors for the next fiscal years. The General Body of the Publican Alumni Trust approved all 3 items which concluded the 6th Annual General Meeting.

Next, Sabiha Parvaiz (Class of 1962), Vice Chairman, Publican Alumni Trust was to present the report on The Publican School. However, since she was unable to attend the event, Rabeea Raees Minai (Class of 1974) presented the report on behalf of Sabiha Parvaiz.

The report mentioned that The Publican School is well set and working smoothly since August 2015. It is functioning well under the guidance of the School Management Committee headed by Sabiha Parvaiz. Presently the school has a total of 175 students studying in Nursery to Class 3. In the current premises, the school will be expanded to a total of 250 students studying in Nursery to Class 5.

The parents are satisfied with the performance of the school, but are concerned about what will happen to their children after Class 5. In view of this, a Secondary Section from Class 6 to Matric needs to be established. Therefore, all Old Publicans are requested to continue to donate generously so that the plan for a secondary section can be achieved.

No Old Publican event can be complete without Closing Remarks from Javed Jabbar (Class of 1961), Founder Chairman, Publican Alumni Trust. In his own inimitable style, Javed Jabbar recalled the golden years of Cantt Public School and how it produced many highly successful people in all walks of life. He reiterated the resolve of all Publicans to continue to work for the betterment of society in general and the education sector in particular.

After the Closing Remarks by Javed Jabbar, a simple but delicious dinner was served, which was followed by highly entertaining musical program.

Thoroughly enjoyable Reunion (Javed Jabbar)

Shabnam and self convey our hearty felicitations to Chairman Admiral Shahid Karimullah and to every Trustee for a very well-organised , smoothly-conducted , thoroughly enjoyable Reunion 2017.

This was team-spirit and action at its fulsome finest.

It was a pleasure to meet both Publicans one already knew as well as Publicans met for the first time.

One felt humbly privileged to be part of such a good fraternity.

The music, the songs were the icing on the cake and Raju's dancing sweet powder on the icing.

May we move closer to achieving PAT goals during 2017, and thereafter. May Trustees Sabiha Parvez and Khalid Zaki enjoy restored good health soonest.

With all good wishes

Wonderful and memorable Reunion (Shahid Karimullah)

Dear Colleagues,

It was a wonderful and a memorable Reunion for which we all can be proud of. Each and every trustee contributed to the success of the Reunion in his or own capacity but the major credit goes to the Social Events Committee and in particular to Ashraf Kapadia. We never had doubts about AK's efficiency but he has again made us all proud.

Thank you all. I really appreciate the entire planning, management and execution of the whole event.
